Newtec and dZine decided to jointly work on a digital signage over satellite proof of concept because it is acknowledged that this solution accommodates two major trends in the digital signage.

At first, satellite communication is moving from a unidirectional medium to an interactive two way system requiring secure IP access on each site. Secondly, as the price of LCD screens is going down, more screens appear outside managed environments (such as bus stations, ski slopes…). Therefore a cost effective solution is needed to connect the different sites in a homogeneous manner. Sat3play, powering Astra2connect, is the solution that answers these problems. It is cost effective to operate and with its point and play feature the installation can be done within half an hour everywhere in the satellite footprint (e.g. west Europe).

In short the advantages presented by this joined solution from Newtec and dZine are:

• The satellite solution is fully compatible DISplay Studio and DISplayer,

• Satellite technology has made a big technology evolution the last years, and offers a price point today comparable with broadband access.

• It is very easy to install, Power and a view on the sky is all that is needed to install the full solution within 30 minutes)

• The broadcast nature of satellite allows for new features such as live broadcasting and multicast content upgrade to all DISplayers. Examples for this could be sport events in betting agents or live concerts distributed on different screens all over town.

• The encryption of the satellite link allows for secure content distribution.

• The synchronised nature of the terminal can ensure that content is distributed at all locations at exactly the same time

• It works everywhere in the footprint of the satellite.

dZine IDS server for content scheduling and distribution will flawlessly integrate with Newtec’s Sat3Play
satellite network, allowing the owner of the DS network to extend his network to all possible locations he can think of. Sat3play terminals will act as a modem for the dZine DISplayer, just like a network switch. Installation wise, it can’t be easier!
